ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

Being affected creates knowledge!

Tell us! Introduce your observations on mental illnesses to the field of research by providing your knowledge to a team of elite researchers from the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft!

They will use your input to gather new approaches and topics for research:

Tell us, what questions about mental health does research need to answer?

1 in 5 people have a mental health problem at some point in their life. To ensure, what is researched matches the needs of the people, we would appreciate your experience as a patient, family member, employer, healthcare professional or expert. You can help us by answering following questions of our challenge:

  1. What unanswered questions about early diagnosis, and diagnosis of mental health problems, do you think research should answer?
  2. What unanswered questions about the treatment, care and support of a patient with mental health problems do you think research should answer?
  3. What unanswered questions about preserving mental health do you think research should answer?

We would be grateful if you could tell us your ideas, experiences and observations, these can be about yourself and also about people you know.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft is Austria's independent research incubator with emphasis on Health Sciences. 550 employees work in 20 research institutions. Tell us! is part of the initiative Open Innovation in Science, which is unique in Europe. Mag. Claudia Lingner, Managing Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft, emphasises that:

"Research has to serve society and has to deploy its powers so that results may be obtained rapidly. Because every fifth person will suffer from a mental illness during his/her lifetime, the involvement of those who have the greatest experience-based knowledge is crucial. We need the knowledge of those affected!"

ANALYSIS PROCESS

Project perdiod
From 16th April 2015 until 6th July 2015 it is possible to submit contributions. After this date, contents will be analyzed with the help of experts from the field and finally categorized.
Topic clusters
Following analysis by experts, contributions will be summarized into topic clusters. These clusters will be used as a basis for the identification of new research questions and topics.
Voting and jury
The defined research areas will be made available on the platform for all registered participants who will then have the opportunity to vote on the topics they deem most relevant. Afterwards, an international jury of experts will compile a final ranking.
Results
The resulting final list of topics will help us to meet our aim: to gain new research questions in the area of mental illness as a basis for prospective research projects.
